Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which you have difficulty falling and staying asleep. According to estimates, nearly 70 million Americans have a sleep disorder, insomnia is the most prevalent and can occur to anyone·

The condition can be acute (for the short term, like from one night to a few weeks), but it’s chronic If it occurs 2-3 times a week for three months or more. The condition is common, and about 10% to 30% of adults live with chronic insomnia.

Many doctors prescribe sleeping pills like benzodiazepines and anti-depressant types of sedative-hypnotics and tranquilizers. The problem with these medicines is that they can cause serious side effects and may not be available over the counter.

Also, they may cause addiction and ultimately leads to substance abuse. These drugs can also cause other side effects.

That’s why some natural and over-the-counter alternatives are used. These natural ingredients are relatively safe to use with no to minimum side effects.

Please remember that natural sleep aid doesn’t always means 100% safe and can cause side effects like confusion, daytime sleepiness, short-term depression, and stomach cramps.

This article will discuss Relaxium Sleep—a product that contains some natural sleep aid ingredients like Melatonin, GABA, L tryptophan, Sensoril, and others.

Relaxium Sleep Ingredients

This supplement is a blend of some natural sleep-inducing ingredients. Here is a list of the Relaxium ingredients and what the research says about them?

Let’s have a quick look;

GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid)— is a nonproteinogenic amino acid and the neurotransmitter that blocks the impulses between nerve cells in the brain. Some studies suggest that natural and biosynthetic GABA intake can improve sleep quality and reduce stress.[1] Other studies observed that GABA can stimulate deep sleep without causing any severe side effects. [2] Besides improving sleep quality supplementing with GABA can enhance your mood, reduce anxiety, stress and treat attention-deficit hyperactivity syndrome (ADHD). New research also suggests that taking a daily dose of GABA can help you get better sleep. The study authors write, “This is an interesting finding, but more studies are needed to confirm this relationship between sleep health and the amount or type of Gaba.”

Melatonin—also known as the sleep hormone, plays a vital role in the body’s sleep-wake cycle. It is a hormone released by the pineal gland at night, and it can encourage sleep. Many studies also suggest that taking Melatonin can help you fall asleep fast and improve sleep quality. [3], [4] However, these studies have certain limitations, so more conclusive evidence is needed to prove its efficacy in stress reduction and sleep induction.

Ashwagandha—Other ingredients like Ashwagandha also have some sleep-inducing effects. According to a study, 300mg of a natural extract of Ashwagandha is tolerated well and can improve sleep quality in people with insomnia. On the other hand, Relaxium contains 125 mg of Sensoril ashwagandha, less than the recommended dose. Still, it will show some positive effects because of the combing effect with Melatonin and other ingredients.

L tryptophan— this is another ingredient present in 500 mg per serving. It is an essential amino acid, and it is then converted to 5HT (5-hydroxy tryptophan) and then to serotonin. This might also improve sleep in people with sleep problems related to the withdrawal of illegal drugs. This small study also suggests that candidates who ate higher-tryptophan cereal had improved sleep quality and duration.

Magnesium—Relaxium also contains Magnesium which, according to the sleep foundation, can improve insomnia symptoms and quality of sleep. This study suggests that by taking 500mg of Magnesium, the patient can fall asleep faster, sleep longer, and reduce cortisol levels. However, Relaxium only contains 100mg of Magnesium per serving which is lower than the recommended dose.

Valerian Root—present in the form of Valerest in Relaxium sleep has been used as a natural remedy for insomnia. But a small study found that participants took 300 mg nightly, and it did not improve their sleep; however, there were some reported side effects, including headache. Another large systematic study looked at all available studies on this topic, indicating safety but lack effectiveness when treating sleep disorders. A single serving of Relaxium sleep contains 228.9 mg of valerian root extract.

Chamomile—The chamomile herb has been used for centuries to promote relaxation and help with sleep. A 2017 study found that seniors who took 400 mg daily had improved sleep quality. However, the product contains only 75 mg of this herb which is three times lower than what’s used in the above study.

How Does Relaxium Work?

As discussed above, the Relaxium combines different natural ingredients that claim to improve your sleep cycle. The product contains Melatonin and GABA, along with other sleep induction ingredients.

GABA and Melatonin are human hormones known to control sleep and reduce cortisol, which is responsible for stress and anxiety.

Melatonin attaches to the receptors in the brain to help lower nerve impulses and dopamine levels. Higher levels of dopamine can help you stay awake, so the reduced level can encourage sleep.

The Ashwagandha and Magnesium can also improve sleep quality and reduce stress and anxiety. Magnesium helps you relax and sleep longer. The melatonin ais your body sleep faster; this one helps you sleep for a longer time. So the combination of these two ingredients is a good sign for a sleep aid supplement.

Ashwagandha leaves contain triethylene glycol, which boosts sleep induction. Apart from this benefit, the leaves also has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-stress activity. The extract of this plant can also improve your immunity by increasing natural killer cells.

Pros and cons Of Relaxium

What Do We Like About It?

  • The product is packed with some proven and natural ingredients to help you relax and sleep well. It might help in treating sleep disorders like insomnia. Also, Relaxium is gluten-free and 100% all-natural.
  • Relaxium comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, which says in volume about the manufacturer’s trust in their product.
  • As it is made from natural ingredients so it will not cause addiction and is not habit forming.
  • It also contains antioxidants that improve immunity and prevent or slow cell damage.

What We Don't Like About It?

  • Some ingredients are mixed in a proprietary blend, so no exact dose is shown. Some of the ingredients are in lower doses than those shown to be effective in clinical studies.
  • The product may also cause some minor side effects.
  • There are hundreds of negative Relaxium sleep reviews on Amazon and other third-party websites.
  • Relaxium is pricey, and you will need to pay a lot of bucks.

How to take it—Relaxium Dosage?

Relaxium comes in a 60 capsule bottle, and you will need to take two pills per day for optimal and faster results. This means that each bottle of the supplement will last for one month.

The product is available on the company’s official site and on Amazon for a $45.95/one-month supply. You can also get a 10% discount if you subscribe to their auto shipping, subscribe, and save offer.

I recommend buying from Amazon because you will pay a lower price and still get the money-back guarantee.

Is it Safe To Use—Relaxium Side Effects?

The supplement is made from all-natural and 100% vegan ingredients, so the chances of side effects are low, but like any other product, this one may also cause some minor to major and severe side effects. Please keep in mind that the chances of severe side effects are low, and generally, Relaxium is tolerated well.

Let’s have a quick look at some of the Relaxium side effects;

  • It contains Melatonin, which is generally safe to use and has reported lower side effects, but this ingredient may cause dizziness, headache, nausea, or agitation.
  • The GABA in Relaxium can sometimes cause upset stomach, headache, sleepiness, and muscle weakness.
  • Small doses of Ashwagandha can be tolerated well, but it can also cause digestive upset, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Some studies suggest that passionflower may cause side effects like drowsiness, confusion, and uncoordinated movement.

Avoid if you are allergic to any of the ingredients present in this formulation. Also, don’t use it if you are already taking prescription anti-depressant drugs or sleeping pills.

Both men and women can use the product for insomnia or trouble sleeping, either because they can’t fall asleep early or don’t sleep deeply enough to feel rested in the morning.

This product is contraindicated in children and pregnant women. Also, talk to your doctor if you have already taken other prescription sleeping pills.

So overall, the product is safe to use as it contains lower doses of each ingredient than recommended in many research studies. So, in my opinion, it is a good thing when it comes to safety profile because lower doses tend to cause no to low side effects. However, it is not a good sign when you want optimal positive results.

Best Relaxium Alternatives

So far, I think Relaxium is the only brand that mixes many natural sleep-inducing ingredients in one supplement. Because many of the products on the market have either one or two ingredients. However, Relaxium sleep still has lower doses of these ingredients than recommended.

Also, I think they should have added Ginkgo and L theanine because they are also said to improve sleep quality.

Here is a list of the cheaper and better Relaxium alternatives;
