Controloc (Pantoprazole): Uses, Side Effects, Dosage

Pantoprazole is the active substance in Controloc. It belongs to a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that block the production of acid through the stomach. It is used in the treatment and prevention of various stomach problems.

The FDA approved pantoprazole in February 2000.

Controloc Uses

It is used for the following conditions

Controloc is used for the treatment of mild gastroesophageal reflux disease and related

• Heartburn,
• Acid belching,
• Swallowing pain

For long-term treatment and prevention of relapse in reflux esophagitis.

For the prevention of gastroduodenal ulcers induced by non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in high-risk patients requiring continuous treatment with NSAIDs.

Used in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Eradication of H. pylori in patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers in combination with antibiotics. H. pylori is a bacterium that accompanies ulcers.

Mechanism Of Action

The mechanism of action of Controloc (pantoprazole) is to inhibit the last step in the production of gastric acid. In the gastric parietal cell of the stomach, pantoprazole is covalently bound to the H + / K + ATP pump to inhibit the secretion of gastric acid and basal acid. The covalent bond prevents the secretion of acid for up to 24 hours or more.

It works by joining the proton pump and by reducing the amount of stomach acid that is pumped into the lumen of the stomach.

Precautions

Controloc In Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

There is no evidence that the use of pantoprazole is harmful during pregnancy. It is recommended to use the medication only during pregnancy unless other options are available. Always talk to your doctor before taking this medication.

Pantoprazole can pass into breast milk and, therefore, should not be used during breast-feeding.

Drug Interactions

Before taking Pantoprazole, tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the medicines you take (including vitamins and herbal supplements).

• Proton pump inhibitors reduce the concentrations of atazanavir or nelfinavir in the blood and, therefore, reduce its effect.
• Pantoprazole may increase the level of methotrexate in the blood.
• False positive urine tests for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) may be given in patients receiving proton pump inhibitors
• Proton pump inhibitors can also increase the effect of warfarin and increase the risk of bleeding.

Controloc Dose

The recommended dose for duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer and reflux esophagitis is 40 mg of pantoprazole once a day in the morning for 2 to 4 weeks.

For the treatment of GERD and the healing of erosive esophagitis, the recommended dose for adults is 40 mg daily for 4-8 weeks.

The dose for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is 40 mg twice a day.

The dose for mild gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and long-term treatment and prevention of relapse in GERD is 20 mg of Controloc (pantoprazole) per day. In general, a period of 4 weeks is required for the cure of mild GERD.

Controloc should be avoided in children under the age of 12.

In general, it is recommended that tablets be taken about 30 minutes before meals for maximum effectiveness. The tablets should be swallowed whole and should not be crushed, split or chewed.
